I'm stepping slowly into a lake in Canada, in November. The trees are all on fire, burning like my skin.
There is so much pressure in my ears, in the air. The water is an emergency and a delight.
I'm shivering but my cheeks are roasting. Kaleidoscopic temperature - all the gradations of hot, warm, cool, cold, in-between, and beyond.
I am changing states - soft and sharp. My capillary flow shifting in speed and intensity: slow and sludgy and then shot through - pumping with the increasing rhythm that becomes sound in my head, usually quiet enough to ignore in the background.
The water: I'm in it; it's in me; but we're also touching each other.
