nightswimming.org is a collection of personal swimming and water stories, submitted on the occasion of Nightswimming, a group exhibition at
The Weather Station in Lafayette, Indiana, on view from March 4 - May 23, 2026.
These short essays were created in response to a series of prompts prepared by curator Brian Hitselberger, whose own experiences as a swimmer informed the exhibition. Essays are identified by first names of authors only, or as listed as anonymous when requested.  

The videos used for backgrounds come from a variety of sources online. Some have been edited for length or clarity. You can find a complete list of the original videos here. 

Thank you to all the project participants - your contributions have enlarged and expanded my thinking about what it means to be a body in water in unexpected and exciting ways.
